Mitsubishi launches facelifted Triton single cab in South Africa – Pricing and specifications

Mitsubishi South Africa has introduced a single-cab derivative into its Triton range, which has historically only been available as a double cab.

The single-cab Triton GL is also the first model to show off the bakkie’s facelifted design, said the automaker.

The new Mitsubishi is squarely aimed at commercial clients and fleet owners as a “cost-effective solution in the face of the steadily rising price of fuel,” said Jeffrey Allison, general manager of marketing at Mitsubishi South Africa.

The introduction of the single-cab GL shortly follows the successful launch of the double-cab GL in March of this year.

The Triton GL models can be spotted by signature exterior design cues including a black grille, door handles, mirrors, tailgate handle, rear bumper, and side steps – along with halogen headlamps and 16-inch steel wheels.

Inside, commercial clients can expect vinyl-wrapped seats, manual air conditioning, electric windows, and two airbags.

Powering the first single-cab Triton on the market is a 2.4-litre, turbo-diesel engine generating 100kW and 324Nm, paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

The drivetrain turns the rear wheels only and features a “hybrid-type” limited-slip differential for improved traction.

“In some situations, the limited-slip diff will perform as good as a 4WD vehicle with open differentials,” said Allison.

Combined fuel consumption for the entry-level Mitsubishi is then pegged at 8.0l/100km, meaning its 75-litre tank should afford up to 938km of range, according to the manufacturer.

It also supports a towing capacity of 1,400kg and carrying capacity of up to one tonne – while the one-handed tailgate provides easy opening and access to four integrated cargo hooks in the load bin.

Price

The new Mitsubishi Triton 2.4DI-D single-cab GL has a South African starting price of R409,995.

Each purchase comes with a 3-year/100,000km warranty, a 5-year/90,000km service plan, and 5-year/unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance.

“Replacement of common parts in the case of accidents or other damages were also carefully considered to lower the ownership cost,” said Allison.

“Looking ahead for Triton range we should end the year off with more than 10 derivates so there’s still a lot to be excited about with a few more additions to the Triton range on the horizon.”
