Toyota South Africa has listed the pricing of its sporty new crossover – the Corolla Cross GR-Sport – which starts at R453,200.
This makes it the second most expensive model in the Cross line-up, slotting in below the top-spec Hybrid XR with its price tag of R461,200.
GR-Sport performance
The Corolla Cross GR-Sport will use the same four-cylinder 1.8-litre petrol engine found on the standard models, which produces 103kW and 172Nm.
It will also make use of a CVT transmission to transmit power to the front wheels, resulting in a fuel consumption of 6.8l/100km on a combined cycle and the same top speed of 185km/h.
However, for this GR-badged model, Toyota has gone and reworked the steering and suspension systems thereby giving it sportier handling characteristics to go with the more athletic look.
Racing finish
Buyers of the Corolla Cross GR-Sport will have a choice of three two-tone colour schemes, including Chromium Silver, Arizona Red, and Glacier White.
The new crossover further gets model-specific front and rear bumpers, black wheel arches, and a new GR-S grille design, as well as daytime-running lights, automatic LED headlights, and 18-inch black alloy wheels.
Moving inside, the updated interior features GR-branded leather seats and red stitching adorns the gearshift and multifunction steering wheel.
Similarly, the dashboard now has a red lining, and GR signage can be found on other items including the push-start button and floor mats.
Since the dimensions of the crossover remain unchanged, the new model will take up to 440 litres of luggage, which can be increased to 1,385 litres with the rear seats folded down.
As far as equipment is concerned, the new Cross GR-Sport comes with rain-sensing wipers, automatic dual-zone air conditioning, an infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a reverse camera, and a six-speaker sound system.
This is in addition to driver aids such as hill assist, front and rear park distance control, lane-trace assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control.
