New Bentley Batur – The most powerful Bentley ever

Bentley has unveiled its most powerful car ever in the form of a two-door coupe – the Mulliner Batur.

The Batur is a showcase of Bentley’s new design going forward which will ultimately guide their future range of electric vehicles, said the company.

This new model is the latest project to come from in-house coachbuilding division Mulliner and is meant to be the successor to the bespoke carmaker’s previous entry – the Bacalar.

Only 18 units will be produced, each one already reserved at a price of £1.65 million (R33.2 million) excluding taxes and options.

Peak performance

The Batur is equipped with a 12-cylinder, 6.0-litre, twin-turbocharged W12 engine – the same powertrain found in the Continental GT.

For this new flagship, the intercoolers, intake system, and turbochargers were all improved upon, and the whole engine has been recalibrated.

The result is that Bentley managed nearly 40% more power while simultaneously improving fuel consumption, it said.

This means the Batur is capable of producing over 1,000Nm of torque and as much as 551kW of power, making it the most powerful vehicle in the history of the luxury brand.

“Our W12 engine is easily the most successful twelve-cylinder automotive engine in history, and as it approaches its retirement to make way for future hybrids and BEVs, we want to mark its accomplishments,” said Bentley.

Additionally, the coupe has received the most advanced Bentley chassis and components to date, with speed-tuned air suspension, electric active anti-roll control, four-wheel drive, an electronic limited-slip differential, torque vectoring, and an eight-speed double-clutch transmission.

Owners will have a choice of four driving modes – Sport, Bentley, Comfort, and Custom – and each of these modes will modify the air springs, anti-roll control system, and front and rear axles accordingly.

Braking will then be done by carbon-silicon-carbide discs that measure 440mm in the front and 410mm in the rear, as well as a set of sport brake calipers.

Tailored luxury

In keeping with the design of other modern Bentleys, the Batur will have a long bonnet with lines stretching the whole length of the body.

The grille has been placed lower and is flanked by a new headlight design that takes cues from the Bacalar. These are matched by similar lights on the rear of the car that sit on either side of the deployable spoiler.

Each Batur will be handcrafted and tailored to the preference of its buyer, who will be involved in the design process alongside Mulliner for the duration of the months-long building process.

Customization choices will include everything from exterior paint colours to the materials and textures used to finish every aspect of the interior down to the air vents.

Exterior additions range from carbon fibre front splitters, side skirts, and rear diffusers to a set of unique 22-inch alloys with contrasting paint that matches the owner’s colour choices.

The two-seater interior further offers a choice of either low-carbon leather from Scotland, sustainable leather from Italy, or Dinamica – a suede-like material.

The dashboard, meanwhile, will be made from natural fibre composites, and custom laser etching is also available.

As for the instrument panel, customers can opt to have the various controls decked out in 3D-printed 18K gold.

Deliveries for Bentley’s new Batur will begin in mid-2023.
