Updated BMW 3 Series – South African pricing revealed

The South African pricing for the updated BMW 3 Series has been revealed, with eight derivatives on offer.

The pricing and model line-up for the popular sedan are as follows:

Each purchase comes with a 5-year/100,000km BMW Motorplan.

What’s new

For its mid-cycle update, the new BMW 3 Series gets a redesigned face with narrower LED lights, daytime running lights in an L shape, a slightly reshaped kidney grille with double vertical struts, enlarged air intakes in high-gloss black, and new contour lines.

Around the back, there’s a revised rear apron, more body-coloured surfaces, and an exhaust system measuring 90mm or 100mm in diameter – depending on the chosen powertrain.

On the inside, standard fitment now includes a curved infotainment system comprising a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch media display running the latest iDrive 8 operating system.

This is in addition to standard three-zone climate control with voice command, an automatically dimming rear-view mirror, and all-round parking sensors, while a wide range of driver assistance systems can also be had for an additional cost.

For a sportier look, buyers can further opt for the M Sport or all-new M Sport Package Pro.

The M Sport option brings a honeycomb-pattern grille, 18-inch alloys, and model-specific front and rear aprons; whereas M Sport Pro adds to this the extended M High-gloss Shadowline package, the M Lights Shadowline package, and the M Sport braking system with red calipers.

In South Africa, the updated 3 Series is offered with one diesel and two petrol engines, each one paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The specifications for these powertrains are as follows:

Power 0-100km/h Top speed Fuel consumption
318i 115kW/250Nm 8.6 seconds 223km/h 6.5l/100km
320i 135kW/300Nm 7.4 seconds 235km/h 6.5l/100km
320d 140kW/400Nm 7.0 seconds 235km/h 5.0l/100km
M340i 285kW/500Nm 4.3 seconds 250km/h 8.0l/100km

Available as an option is an eight-speed Sports transmission with sharper shifts, as well as Launch Control and Sprint functions.

BMW South Africa has not yet confirmed when the updated 3 Series will go on sale in the local market.
