Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio updated – Everything new

Alfa Romeo’s two most awarded cars ever – the Giulia and the Stelvio – have been updated, packing a host of changes that make the Italian duo as stylish as ever.

A choice of two powertrains means there are four different models to pick from for the South African motorist looking for something with sporty performance and visual flair.

What’s new

The most notable change for this yearly update cycle is the replacement of the Stelvio Super with a new model – the Stelvio Veloce – aligning the SUV with the Giulia bearing the same name.

Among the changes made to the updated SUV are a new body-colour exterior kit, black anodized brake calipers, matte dark exhaust tips, and monotone wheel centres.

Inside, the Veloce now has a black roof lining, six-way electronically adjustable luxury carbon sports seats with four-way lumbar adjustment, a new infotainment system with eight speakers, and a hands-free tailgate.

Petrolheads will also be pleased to know that both the SUV and sedan will continue to be powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine providing 206kW and 400Nm.

This power is then transmitted to either the rear wheels or all four wheels, depending on the model, through an eight-speed automatic transmission. In addition, the Guilia now also comes with a limited-slip differential as standard.

The Stelvio, on the other hand, features a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, which is partly attributed to its many driver aid functions such as autonomous emergency brake with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning.

Buyers looking for something even more exciting, meanwhile, can look to the Guilia and Stelvio Q derivatives, which are shipped with Alfa’s 2.9-litre turbocharged V6 engine.

The result is an imposing 375kW and 600Nm, which allows for a 0-100km/h sprint time of just 3.8 seconds for both the sedan and SUV.

Pricing

The South African pricing for the new Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio are as follows:

  • Alfa Romeo Stelvio Veloce – R1,188,900
  • Alfa Romeo Stelvio Q – R1,911,900
  • Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce – R1,061,900
