From 22 to 24 September 2023, almost exactly one year from now, Suzuki South Africa will play host to the Jimny Safari Town Festival and Jimny Gathering in Clarens, Free State.
The get-together is coined the “largest Suzuki Jimny gathering in the Southern Hemisphere, and possibly the world,” said Suzuki.
“[The event] will bring together hundreds, if not thousands of Jimny owners and fans to set a record for the largest number of Jimnys on one site.”
The Suzuki Gathering weekend will start on Friday 22 September 2023 as the first owners are welcomed to the town.
On Saturday, Suzuki and the Jimnys “will depart on a Jimny Expedition and have fun at the Safari Town Festival” where local bands including Mango Groove, Goodluck, Spoegwolf, and more will be performing.
On Sunday, attendees will celebrate National Heritage Day and this is also when the official gathering world record will be attempted.
In the build-up to the big weekend, a specially-made Jimny Gathering 2023 website has been launched allowing owners to register their Jimny, SJ, Samurai, or Suzuki LJ in order to join the meetup.
Suzuki has also secured local comedian and Jimny owner Schalk Bezuidenhout to host the weekend-long event.
Suzuki’s most popular 4×4
The compact and boxy Jimny is one of Suzuki’s most popular 4×4 models both in South Africa and globally.
Since its local debut in 2008 it has sold over 17,500 units, not including the LJ, Samurai, and SJ generations.
By the time the Jimny Gathering takes place late next year, Suzuki expects to have moved over 20,000 examples of its quirky two-door 4×4.
“If we can host even a small fraction of these owners in the beautiful town of Clarens, we will set the record and send a clear message to Suzuki owners in other countries on how passionate and proud we are of our Jimny Family,” said Brendon Carpenter, brand marketing manager of Suzuki Auto South Africa.
