Lamborghini has announced the new Urus S – a successor to the original super SUV with an increased power output.
The S replaces the standard Urus as the new entry-level model in the lineup, falling in below the recently-unveiled Urus Performante.
Since its launch in 2018 the high-performance SUV has been a phenomenal success for the Italian carmaker, breaking record after record with over 20,000 units sold as of June 2022.
More power
Under the hood of the new Urus S is nothing less than a twin-turbo V8 petrol engine packing 496kW and a whopping 850Nm – 18kW more than the previous Urus and the same as the flagship Performante.
This gives the S a substantial top speed of 305km/h, while acceleration from 0-100km/h is handled in just 3.5 seconds.
Reaching 200km/h will take 12.5 seconds, and the Urus’ brakes are capable of bringing the car to a halt from 100km/h in fewer than 34 metres.
The brushed steel twin-exhaust system has also been retuned to deliver a more distinct start-up sound and sharper driving notes, said the automaker.
Handling-wise, Lamborghini has opted for an adaptive air suspension unit working in tandem with the super SUV’s four driving modes, Strada, Sport, Corsa, and Ego – rebalancing the torque response and body balancing accordingly.
Various terrain modes are also available, which include Terra (Dirt,) Neve (Snow), and Sabbia (Sand).
Fresh looks
With the new engine and model designation, naturally, Lamborghini has also overhauled the look of the Urus, adding new cosmetics while expanding the range of customization options for customers across the board.
A new front and rear bumper design give the body a more refined look, and a lightweight carbon fibre bonnet with matte-black air vents and new matte-black stainless steel skidplates have been fitted as standard.
Buyers are also able to choose from one of five style configurations combining body colour, black, and carbon fibre elements with a matte finish to various degrees.
For the wheels, 21-inch alloys are equipped from the factory, which can be upgraded to either a set of 22-inch Nath rims with a titanium and diamond scheme or 23-inch Taigete wheels with a bronze and diamond polish.
As for the interior, the new SUV sports the same stitching pattern as the Performante, and the bi-colour upholstery combines black leather with a choice of blue, green, tan, cream, or brown colours.
