The sporty Range Rover
Each entry into the new Range Rover Sport catalogue will make use of an eight-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system with all-wheel steering.
The all-wheel steering allows for the rear wheels to phase out by 7.3 degrees from the front wheels, affording greater manoeuvrability at low speeds, which gives the large SUV the turning circle of a hatchback, said the company.
A new chassis combines this with an active differential with torque vectoring, which tailors the driving experience both to the mode selected by the driver and to Land Rover’s latest Terrain Response system.
For powertrains, buyers have the option for a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine producing a sizeable 294kW and 500Nm while averaging 9.4l/100km.
A diesel variant of the six-cylinder turbocharged drivetrain is also on offer, producing 258kW and 700Nm, and registering a lower combined consumption of 7.4l/100km.
Combining the best of both worlds is the plug-in hybrid model, also utilizing a 3.0-litre turbocharged engine, alongside a 38.2kWh battery and 105kW motor, which affords it an all-electric range of up to 113km.
Its power output is also higher than the petrol and diesel versions, as the hybrid provides an impressive 375kW and 700Nm, letting it do 0-100km/h in 5.4 seconds whilst having a fuel spending of just 1.6l/100km.
Headlining the new SUV’s launch, however, is an all-new twin-turbo V8 generating a tremendous 390kW and the same torque as the hybrid at 700Nm, which gives the V8 Sport a 0-100km/h time of 4.5 seconds.
A fully-electric Range Rover Sport is also expected to debut in 2024, said the automaker.
As far as features are concerned, buyers can look forward to a host of luxury fittings such as 19 to 23-inch alloys, two-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, paddle shifters, keyless start and entry, leather upholstery, and 12-way electronically adjustable heated front seats.
The SUV also ships with a number of driver’s aids including blind-spot assist, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, rear traffic monitoring, a 360-degree surround camera, and the Terrain Response 2 off-road programme.
Finally, the Sport boasts a 13.7-inch digital driver display and a floating 13.1-inch infotainment screen running Land Rover’s Pivi Pro operating system with smartphone mirroring, which connects to a Meridian sound system with at least 15 speakers.
