Bulletproof Nissan Navara now on sale in South Africa – Details

The well-known SVI Engineering has taken another one of South Africa’s favourite bakkies, the Nissan Navara, and made it bulletproof.
The discreet “B6 armour” that is now available for the Nissan represents the highest grade of civilian protection that can be installed without the need for a permit, offering resistance against firearms up to and including assault rifles such as the Ak47, R1, and R5.
Previously, the bakkie was only available with the lower-grade Stopgun V2.0 kit which is aimed at commercial customers, with strong demand for this version urging the company to now also launch the passenger-facing B6 protection, said Nicol Louw, SVI business development director.
The Navara joins the likes of the Ford Ranger, Nissan Patrol, Toyota Hilux and Land Cruiser 300, and VW Amarok which have all received the bulletproofing treatment by SVI, too.
Details
The Navara’s 360-degree B6 protection utilises 38mm-thick armoured glass that is curved to the original manufacturer’s specifications to fit seamlessly into the doors, which were themselves strengthened with thick armoured steel plates cut to exact dimensions.
Footwell and firewall protection and “careful overlapping of materials” then ensure there are no gaps for ballistics to accidentally slip through, said Louw.
The end product provides coverage for the entire passenger cell, including all pillars, doors, windows, and critical powertrain components.
In addition, the bakkie’s suspension is upgraded to offset the added weight of all the protective upgrades.
Price
Pricing for the B6 armour installation on the Nissan Navara is as follows:
- Single cab B6 – From R543,076 excl. VAT
- Double cab B6 – From R707,888 excl. VAT
The build time is set at three months, while the list of options includes roof armour, floor armour, and heavy-duty runflat tyre rings.
A lower-grade B4 armour, which provides protection against handguns up to and including a .44 Magnum, is also available for either body style, said SVI.
