You can be one of the 1st in the world to own an armoured electric Jaguar – Pricing

A South African company, Armormax, has completed work on the world’s first armoured Jaguar I-Pace.

“This is the first Jaguar I-Pace to be armoured globally, as well as the first all-electric luxury passenger vehicle to be armoured in South Africa” said the company.

For local customers who’d like to make their own electric Jaguar bullet-resistant, the cost of the B4 armour package is set at R739,000, including VAT.

As new, the car itself currently has a starting price of R2,074,700, which will bring the total cost of a B4-level I-Pace from Armormax up to R2,813,700.

Armormax is the only approved armourer by Jaguar Land Rover South Africa, and as such, the standard warranty and maintenance plans are unaffected.

It must be noted that the B4 armour is currently only available as an aftermarket fitment.

Armoured luxury

The I-Pace’s armour package uses the highest grade ballistic fibre for all the windows, as well as patented lightweight synthetic armour for the doors, pillars, and body panels to provide all-around protection.

This protection is certified to be at a B4 level, which means it is capable of withstanding repeated fire from handguns ranging up to a .44 calibre.

Furthermore, the car has been upgraded to have a run-flat tyre system and a push-to-talk intercom has been installed to allow for communication with people outside without needing to open the doors or windows.

Even so, both front windows are fully operable, despite the added armour.

“This project presented a great opportunity to challenge ourselves and expand our capabilities,” said Grant Anderson, Managing Director at Armormax.

“We are proud to say we built this car to our high standard despite the challenges and left the base vehicle very much unchanged.”

The company also received assistance from the technical team at Jaguar Land Rover South Africa, who provided their expertise on the intricacies of the electrified I-Pace.

The end result is that the total weight added to the vehicle is less than 200kg, meaning there is no discernable effect on the SUV’s performance.
