Electric Jaguar I-Pace updated for South Africa – New models and features

Jaguar has updated its all-electric I-Pace SUV with new design cues and enhanced features, while also adding new R-Dynamic trim options to the line-up.

Previously, the battery-powered SUV was exclusively offered in the “Black” specification with a starting price in excess of R2,000,000 – but with the addition of the R-Dynamic trims, the company has made its I-Pace more attractive to a wider range of buyers.

The updated Jaguar can now be ordered in South Africa with the first units scheduled to land “towards the middle of 2023,” said the manufacturer.

What’s new

For the 2023 facelift, the I-Pace gains a smooth front grille in Atlas Grey, replacing the black “lozenge-pattern” fixture of before, signaling to the world that there are no fuel-burning engines under this car’s bonnet.

Additionally, for the R-Dynamic models the front bumper finishers, lower door sections, and rear diffuser are now in body colour instead of gloss black, and the front Jaguar badge is black and silver instead of black and red.

Inside the passenger cell, every specification in the revised range is treated to the latest Pivi Pro infotainment system that brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as the What3Words global navigation system which enables drivers to navigate to virtually any location in the entire world by only punching in the three-word sequence that is connected to that area.

The new Jaguar further supports software-over-the-air updates, ensuring the on-board systems are always up to date without having to take the car back to a dealership.

As an I-Pace first, two satin paints can now also be optioned namely Eiger Grey and Carpathian Grey, and the roof can be had in black to complement the panoramic glass panel, unlike before when this area was only offered in body colour.

Electric performance

The I-Pace received no revisions under the shell and is still driven by twin electric motors developing a combined 294kW and 696Nm, accelerating the SUV to 100km/h in 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 200km/h on the cards.

The 90kWh battery pack then affords a driving range of 470km and supports a maximum 100kW DC incoming current which can add up to 127km of range in 15 minutes.

Local customers with three-phase electricity at home and an 11kW wallbox charger can charge their new-energy Jaguar from 0-100% in 8 hours and 36 minutes, whereas those with single-phase electricity using a 7kW box can expect a full charge in 12 hours and 45 minutes.
