Haval has launched the Jolion S in South Africa with an uprated powerplant, unique design, and exclusive features setting it apart from the rest of the range.
Until now, the crossover has only been offered with a single engine option consisting of a 1.5-litre, turbo-petrol mill connected either to a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission.
Now, however, this power unit can be had with an additional 25kW and 60Nm with drive solely handled by the automatic shifter.
The S slots in at the top of the Jolion family with a starting price of R479,950, carrying a 5-year/100,000km warranty and 5-year/60,000km service plan.
What’s new
The main addition to the new Jolion is a larger turbocharger bolted to the same 1.5-litre motor as in its siblings, allowing for a peak power output of 130kW and 270Nm.
Furthermore, the S assures “extensively enhanced ride and handling performance during both regular and sporty driving,” said Haval, thanks to independent multi-link rear suspension in place of the torsion beams used in the standard derivatives.
Several driving modes are further included covering Comfort, Eco, Light, Snow, Sports, and Standard; as is Launch Control – an S-exclusive ability that allows drivers “to extract maximum performance from the drivetrain when accelerating from a standstill position.”
The manufacturer has yet to reveal the newcomer’s performance figures or fuel consumption, though with its increased power levels, we expect the latter to exceed the claimed 7.5l/100km of its siblings.
Along with the more capable drivetrain, the Jolion S is enhanced with a unique front grille boasting a chrome honeycomb pattern, gloss black 18-inch alloys, and blacked-out front and rear bumpers, side mirror caps, door beadings, and roof rails.
Based on the Super Luxury specification, Haval’s new crossover is equipped as standard with a 7-inch digital driver’s cluster, 12.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six-speaker stereo, paddle shifters, a wireless charger, dual-zone climate control, automatic LED headlights, an eco-leather multifunction steering wheel and seats, keyless entry and start, a 360-degree camera system, parking sensors, and a panoramic sunroof.
Additionally, it comes with a healthy selection of advanced driver assistance programmes including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection, lane-change and keep assist, lane departure alert, driver fatigue detection, traffic-jam assist, intelligent-turning assist, traffic-sign recognition, and ABS with brake assist.
The S is now also the only Jolion model in the line-up to have front-seat heating, pre-collision warnings, and automatic emergency braking.
