Mitsubishi South Africa has introduced a new flagship model for the Eclipse Cross family, the GLS Exceed.
The Exceed has a starting price of R560,000 – R40,000 more than the previous range-topper – and gets a host of enhanced features over and above its more affordable siblings.
The Eclipse Cross range now consists of three models, each sold with a 3-year/100,000km warranty, a 5-year/90,000km service plan, and 5-year/unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance.
GLS Exceed specifications
The Exceed receives several styling enhancements as part of its positioning as the headlining specification, such as twin oval headlamps, Y-shaped three-dimensional taillamps, and colour-coded bumpers.
Standard equipment further comprises a heads-up display, keyless entry and start, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, a multifunction steering wheel, electric and heated front seats, cruise control, a rear-view camera, dusk-sensing headlamps, automatic wipers, a panoramic sunroof, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Blind-spot monitoring, hill-start assist, active stability and traction control, ABS with brake assist, and seven airbags are fitted, too, as well as Mitsubishi’s new “Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System.”
“This intuitive technology reduces the chance and severity of hitting obstacles 4 metres in front or behind, should a driver mistakenly press the accelerator when stationary or when travelling at speeds below 10km/h,” said the automaker.
Passenger entertainment is then taken care of by an 8-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, which plays through an eight-speaker stereo.
Under the hood, the GLS Exceed is powered by a 1.5-litre, turbo-petrol engine capable of generating 110kW and 250Nm, mated with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that drives the front axle.
A fuel consumption reading of 7.7l/100km is on the cards, and 100km/h can be attained in 8.9 seconds.
The gearbox also features a Sport mode, which aids in acceleration and “ensures that the engine is able to offer optimum performance at all times,” said Mitsubishi.
