New Mahindra Scorpio-N in South Africa – Pricing and features

The next generation of Mahindra’s rugged Scorpio SUV is going on sale in South Africa on 20 February and buyers can have their pick between four specifications each powered by a diesel drivetrain.

The Scorpio-N has a local starting price of R465,000 and the first units are reaching dealerships next week.

Trim levels

The new Scorpio-N in entry-level Z4 trim comes with a semi-digital instrument cluster consisting of a 7-inch display flanked by analogue dials, and the new 8-inch AdrenoX infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and built-in navigation.

Additional niceties comprise cruise control, rear cameras, reverse parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, hill ascent and descent assist, driver drowsiness detection, six airbags, and 17 steel wheels.

The Z8 further gets coffee-black leatherette upholstery, automatic LED head and taillights, keyless entry and start, rain-sensing wipers, a third climate control zone, and 18-inch alloys.

Setting the Z8 L apart from the non-L variant are a 12-speaker Sony stereo, a front camera, front parking sensors, a wireless charger, and an electric driver seat.

Performance

The local market sees the Scorpio-N equipped with a 2.2-litre, turbo-diesel motor pushing out 129kW and 400Nm at an average consumption of 6.9l/100km, connected to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The ladder-frame SUV is then available in rear-wheel drive with “Zip, Zap, and Zoom” drive modes – which loosely translates to Eco, Normal, and Sport – as well as with the new 4Xplor 4×4 foundation which brings Grass, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Rut, and Sand settings.

The 4Xplor model also sports a mechanical locking rear differential and brake locking differential, while the entire range boasts an impressive 225mm of suspension travel to enhance its off-roading expertise.
