Fiat has unveiled the updated 500X crossover, which is now on sale in South Africa at a starting price of R509,900.
The larger cousin to the well-known 500 hatchback, the X is now available in three trim levels – the Cross, the Sport, and a new Sport Extended Soft Top (EST).
Everything new
For the first time, the 500X is being offered with a convertible roof on the EST models, which is able to electronically fold itself in just 15 seconds. The 775mm by 730mm roof can be deployed while traveling at speeds of up to 100km/h and operated with a single button tap.
Both versions of the Sport now also receive body-coloured wheel arches, side skirts, 19-inch alloy wheels, dual-chrome exhausts, and various Sport badges to differentiate themselves from the standard Cross models.
It’s a similar story inside, as the Sport is fitted with a techno leather upholstery, Alcantara steering wheel, a titanium-style finish on the dashboard, and a 3.5-inch colour instrument display.
Standard equipment that can be found on all versions of the car, however, include roof rails, skid plates, LED headlights, fog lights, daytime running lights, dual-zone climate control, a stop-start function, lane-keep assist, six airbags, ABS, and hill assist.
A 7-inch Uconnect infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and voice recognition for hands-free operating is installed across the range, too.
All versions of the crossover also feature a 1.4-litre, turbo-petrol engine, which is paired to a six-speed dual dry-clutch transmission (DDCT).
This configuration produces 103kW and 230Nm, while fuel consumption is listed at an economical 5.7l/100km on a combined cycle.
