Toyota Hilux features enhanced for 2023 – What’s new

Toyota has updated its highly-successful Hilux series, applying key changes to the vehicle line-up to stay up to date with customer demands.

The 4×4 was South Africa’s best-selling car in 2022 with more than 30,000 units purchased between January and December.

The bakkie can be had in four body types – single cab, chassis cab, Xtra cab, and double cab – with petrol and diesel engines on offer between the variety of models.

What’s new

Starting with the Xtra cab, the Legend trim level now comes standard with Toyota’s Safety Sense (TSS), which adds adaptive cruise control, lane-departure assist, and a pre-collision system. These functions can be operated using the dedicated steering wheel controls as well as the multi-information driver display.

The side mirrors have also been given a welcome light function, something that was previously only found on the double-cab Legend models.

The double-cab Legends have seen improvements of their own, as the whole range now boasts the same specification level, where the 4×2 models previously missed out on certain features.

This means all these models now sport a power-adjustable driver’s seat, leather upholstery, Toyota Safety Sense, a nine-speaker JBL sound system, dual-zone climate control, and a smart entry system.

All Hilux specifications with the Legend and Raider nameplates have also been given an automatic transmission temperature warning system, which reports on the gearbox when transporting heavy loads or when driving up steep terrain.

Buyers have a choice of seven colours as before, including Glacier White, Chromium Silver, Metallic Grey, Metallic Inferno, Cosmic Blue, Arizona Red and Oxide Bronze, with two additional colours – Platinum White and Attitude Black – being reserved for double cab units.

Customers can also inquire about a Sand Beige paint scheme which is currently available in limited numbers for all body types.
