New Renault Captur now on sale in South Africa – Pricing and features

The new Renault Captur has gone on sale in South Africa, the first of five new vehicles the French manufacturer plans to launch in the domestic market in 2023.

The Captur is now available at a starting price of R454,999 and it only comes with one engine, as such, the two specifications on offer are set apart by their features and looks.

Standard equipment

On the more affordable Captur Zen, standard equipment comprises automatic LED headlights with daytime running lights, rain-sensing wipers, climate control, a multifunction steering wheel, front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, hill-start assist, cruise control, and 17-inch steel wheels with “Flex” covers.

This is alongside a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto playing through an Arkamys sound system.

In the pricier Captur Intens, the attachments continue with a wireless charger, multi-sense ambient lighting, a synthetic leather steering wheel and gear lever, an electronic handbrake with auto brake hold, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warnings, 17-inch “Bahama Black” alloy wheels, and a Diamond Black roof.

The range-topper also gets a larger 9-inch driver’s display as well as a 9.3-inch central touchscreen.

Among the more practical attributes shared by both are then a slideable rear bench, 536-litre boot, as well as a relatively high ground clearance of 174mm.

With its six airbags, ABS with emergency braking assist, and electronic brake-force distribution the hatchback also scored a 5-star safety rating from the Euro NCAP programme, said Renault.

Performance

The Captur range receives one engine option, a 1.3-litre, turbo-petrol block capable of producing 113kW and 270Nm.

Both hatchbacks are front-wheel drive and deliver power to the surface via a seven-speed automatic gearbox, in the process obtaining a claimed fuel usage of 6.6l/100km and a 0-100km/h time of 9.6 seconds.

Eco, Normal, and Sport drive modes are also included, while the range-topping Intens specification gets a “flying console” with an e-shifter gear lever, too.
