Mini Clubman Final Edition unveiled – How many are coming to South Africa

Mini has unveiled the Cooper S Clubman Final Edition which will be produced in a limited run of 1,969 units, signaling an end to the popular “shooting-brake” body style after a 54-year production run starting in 1969.

“Ten units of the Mini Clubman Final Edition have been confirmed for South Africa, with customer deliveries to commence from the fourth quarter of 2023,” said BMW’s domestic subsidiary.

The Clubman is touted as being the “most versatile” of the manufacturer’s compact vehicles, providing the iconic Mini look with practicality that is uncharacteristic of the brand courtesy of the rectangular body style and side-hinged rear doors.

Final Edition specifications

The Final Edition is based on the Cooper S Clubman, with a host of visual and equipment upgrades befitting its special-edition status.

This particular Clubman is only available in Enigmatic Black, Melting Silver, or Nanuq White; but no matter the chosen colour, each hue is complemented by Shimmer Copper highlights on elements such as the radiator grille, side scuttles, and Cooper S blade.

The lower area of the side doors features narrow lines in the copper colour that “accentuate the elongated body of the iconic shooting-brake concept” with these lines mimicked on the bonnet and rear doors.

The wheels themselves are also in an exclusive Final Edition Spoke design and are finished in a “tinted clear lacquer reminiscent of copper.”

A “1 of 1969” badge further adorns the C-pillar, with a shiny “Final Edition” script on the rear doors completing the exterior details.

The special-edition Clubman received numerous touchups inside the cabin, too, such as model-specific lettering on the door sills and Nappa leather steering wheel accompanying the Dark Maroon leather sports seats with sewn-in “Edition” badges.

The instrument panel is completed in a combination of matte Sage Green Dark and Shimmer Copper, with a “1 of 1969” badge reminding passengers that they are in a highly-limited Mini.

An identical badge can also be found on the floor mats, and graphic lettering characterises the Final Edition key fob.

Standard equipment then includes an 8.8-inch infotainment system with Mini Online services and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, a multifunction steering wheel, seat heating, climate control, keyless entry and start, and multiple drive modes including Sport and Green.

Thanks to the Clubman’s massive rump, opening the swinging rear doors at the back also provides up to 1,250 litres of storage space.

The engine of the base model remained untouched, the 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol plant sending 131kW to the front wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission.
