The updated VW Polo Vivo GT has officially gone on sale in South Africa at a starting price of R332,800.
The popular hatchback has gained a few minor exterior touchups to differentiate it as the 2023 model and flagship variant in the Vivo range, as well as revised interior amenities to go with the higher asking price.
Everything new
The top-of-the-line Vivo’s model-specific styling cues were rethought for the new year, the hatchback now getting silver mirror caps, GT badging on the grille and boot, redesigned GT nomenclature on the front doors, a chrome-tipped exhaust, a black boot spoiler, and an all-new exterior colour in the form of metallic Wild Cherry Red, alongside the four other pre-existing hues.
Moreover, the sporty Vivo’s ride height has been lowered by 15mm in comparison to its standard siblings, now measuring 128mm, and it sits on model-exclusive 17-inch “Mirabeau” alloy wheels in silver.
The redesign continues when opening the doors, as the VW is equipped with grey stitching on the gear lever and handbrake to tie in with the grey equipment accents, embroidered GT branding on the floor mats, and the red cloth inserts and stitchwork replacing the previous blue patterns to match the new exterior paintjob.
Additional fitments comprise front sports seats, aluminium-look pedals, anthracite-colour headlining, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, dusk-sensing headlamps, and a 7-inch infotainment unit with six speakers and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
As before, the GT is the only Vivo in the line-up driven by a 1.0-litre, turbo-petrol motor producing 81kW and 200Nm, suitably making it the most powerful model in the range, matched with a six-speed manual transmission.
Buyers can expect this setup to report a combined fuel usage of 4.6l/100km with a top speed of 196km/h on the cards, too.
