Hyundai Tucson N Line coming to South Africa – What to expect

South Africa is soon receiving the new Hyundai Tucson N Line, which will assume the flagship position in the series.

The new Tucson is scheduled to arrive on local shores in the final week of May, offering a sportier persona than what is currently available in the range.

What to expect

Hyundai’s N Line units effectively split the difference between a model’s normal derivatives and its high-performance N counterparts, offering the styling details of the latter while keeping the engine and performance of the former.

A good illustration of this is the Kona, where the N Line comfortably fits in as the middle child between the base Executive and the dialed-up Kona N.

Given that there is no N specification for the Tucson, the N Line will become the new range-topper when it arrives in South Africa, similar to the i20 and Venue.

The current Tucson line-up, launched last year, consists of four models with three different trim levels – Premium, Executive, and Elite – and two engines.

The 2.0-litre petrol drivetrain, which can be found in all of the specifications, has an output of 115kW and 192Nm while its fuel consumption is marked at 8.9l/100km.

The 2.0-litre turbo-diesel, on the other hand, can only be had on the top-spec Elite, and boasts a much higher 137kW and 416Nm as well as improved efficiency at 7.4l/100km.

While it’s not yet certain which engine the Tucson N Line is getting, it’s safe to assume it will be the more powerful diesel one, meaning it should also come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Hyundai has yet to confirm the local specifications of the upcoming model, but as a reference, the European version features a dual exhaust, rear diffuser, black roof, 19-inch alloy wheels, aluminium pedals, and a two-tone black/red interior with suede and leather sports seats.

A healthy dosage of N insignias can also be found scattered all around the body and cabin.

This is on top of the equipment the Elite comes with, including adaptive cruise control, a wireless charger. ventilated seats, climate control, keyless entry and start, a digital instrument cluster, and an 8-inch infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The starting price for the new Hyundai Tucson N Line will be revealed closer to its launch date.
