New Toyota Vitz pricing revealed – The cheapest Toyota in South Africa

Toyota South Africa has revealed the local pricing of the Vitz hatchback – the brand’s new entry-level car.

There are three models in total, consisting of a base unit with a manual transmission and a higher-specification XR trim with both a manual and automatic option.

The South African pricing for each of the Vitz entries is as follows:

Each purchase comes with a 3-year/100,000km warranty and a 2-service/30,000km service plan.

The carmaker has not confirmed whether the vehicle is on sale yet, but the Vitz is now listed on the company’s official website, and it is also available for lease via the Kinto subscription service.

The Vitz will be replacing the outgoing Agya as the most affordable entry in the Toyota family. In fact, the Vitz is actually cheaper than the Agya, as the latter has a starting price of R206,000.

What’s on offer

Every unit in the Vitz range is equipped with the same 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine which generates 49kW and 89Nm.

The two gearboxes on offer are either a five-speed manual or automated manual (AMT), resulting in a combined fuel consumption of 4.4l or 4.2l/100km, respectively.

The hatchback is also front-wheel drive, has a ground clearance of 170mm, and a top speed of 160km/h.

Standard equipment on the entry-level model includes halogen headlights, black door handles and side mirrors, a black-and-chrome grille, 14-inch steel wheels, a full-sized spare wheel, rear park distance control, fabric upholstery, manual air conditioning, a 12V socket, a 295-litre boot, and two speakers, though a radio needs to be installed at an additional cost.

It also comes with safety features like ABS, electronic brake force distribution, vehicle stability control, and two front airbags.

Upgrading to the XR specification then replaces the black exterior styling elements with body-coloured panels, swaps the wheels with 15-inch alloys, and adds electric side mirrors, remote unlock, electric windows, a USB port, and a multifunction steering wheel.

Additionally, the XR receives a 7-inch infotainment screen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a total of four speakers.
