Limited-edition Shelby Centennial Edition Mustang coming to South Africa – Yours for only R2.8 million

The new limited-edition Shelby Centennial Edition Mustang is coming to South Africa.

Only 100 units of the special model are being produced for 21 markets around the world, and Shelby South Africa has managed to procure three of these cars for a lucky few enthusiasts.

The Shelby has a price tag of R2,800,000, but Ford warned that prices may vary based on the current rand/US dollar exchange rate, and interested parties can order the car through one of Shelby’s regional mod shops.

Each purchase also includes membership to Team Shelby – the worldwide club established in 2008.

A commemorative model

The Centennial Edition was commissioned to honour the 100th anniversary of company founder Carroll Shelby, who was born on the 11th of January, 1923.

“This new, limited-edition car celebrates Carroll Shelby and honours his many achievements,” said Vince LaViolette, Shelby American vice president of operations and chief of R&D.

“To properly honour him required us to build a car that was truly born to run.”

As such, the Shelby CE is based on the 2023 Ford Mustang GT but its naturally-aspirated, 5.0-litre, V8 engine wasn’t up to par, so the company slapped a massive supercharger on top.

Thanks to the new forced induction, the Shelby’s power has been upped immensely from the standard 330kW to a staggering 560kW.

Other changes to the Centennial Edition include a new performance radiator and fluid caps, as well as a free-flowing Borla exhaust system to maximize the V8’s signature audio tones at every rev interval.

Handling has also been improved thanks to a set of performance springs and sway bars, which produce sharper and more direct turns without compromising the ride comfort.

Adjustable camber plates have also been added to allow for a customizable level of fine-tuning in the corners, while a set of Brembo brake calipers at the front handles the task of stopping.

Cosmetic differences between the standard ‘Stang and the Centennial include bespoke performance parts like a new front fender, 20-inch alloy rims with racing tyres, a unique upper grille, rear spoiler, tail panel, side wings, and satin black vinyl stripes.

The same treatment has been afforded to the interior, with model-specific Shelby leather upholstery, floor mats, plated door sills, and a new instrument cluster.
