R448,000 Chery Omoda C5 now on sale in South Africa – Specifications

The new Chery Omoda C5 – the first model to come from the Chinese automaker’s luxury sub-brand – is now on sale in South Africa.

The crossover is available in three specifications with pricing as follows:

  • Chery Omoda C5 1.5TCI 230T Tech – R447,990
  • Chery Omoda C5 1.5TCI 230T Elegance – R507,900
  • Chery Omoda C5 1.5TCI 230T Elegance S – R509,900

Each purchase comes with a 5-year/150,000km warranty, a 5-year/60,000km service plan, and an additional 10-year/1-million km engine warranty for the first owner.

The Omoda is the fourth model that the carmaker has brought to South Africa, following the success of its Tiggo range comprising the Pro 4, Pro 7, and Pro 8.

A new contender

All three variants of the new Omoda are driven by the same 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol engine which produces 115kW and 230Nm.

This powertrain is combined with a CVT transmission and front-wheel-drive underpinnings, resulting in an average fuel consumption of 6.9l/100km.

The C5 also has 169mm of ground clearance and space in the boot for 378 litres of cargo.

It’s in the features department that the Omoda really starts to differentiate itself as Chery’s luxury sub-division, as the three trim levels boast an extensive list of items.

The entry-level Tech comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights and daytime running lights, keyless entry and start, a leather multifunction steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, cruise control, a wireless charger, ambient lighting, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice commands, and six speakers.

It also has sports seats with vinyl/cloth upholstery, and the driver’s chair boasts six-way manual adjustability while the front passenger’s has four directions.

The top-spec Elegance adds to this with 18-inch alloys, red brake calipers, electronically-adjustable leather seats with ventilation, rain-sensing wipers, a powered sunroof, 8-speaker Sony sound system, a 360-degree camera, and adaptive cruise control.

The Elegance also receives a number of assistance features including forward collision warnings, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, traffic congestion assist, and lane-keep assist.

The only difference between the Elegance and Elegance S is a styling package adding red highlights to the exterior, and both units have the option of a two-tone paint scheme.
