New Toyota Urban Cruiser – South African pricing and specifications

Toyota has finally listed the pricing and model line-up of the new Urban Cruiser, which will be replacing the automaker’s most affordable crossover which carries the same badge.

Starting from R329,400 – R46,200 more than its predecessor – the new Urban Cruiser is available in three specifications spanning Xs and Xr equipment levels, two transmissions, and one engine option.

Once again, the Toyota was produced in partnership with Suzuki and is based on the new Grand Vitara which also went on sale in South Africa earlier this week.

Features

In Xs guise, the new Urban Cruiser is equipped with smart entry door handles, push-button start, bi-halogen headlamps with LED daytime running lights, automatic airconditioning, a urethane multifunction steering wheel, a reverse camera with rear parking sensors, and a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto playing through two speakers.

Driver and passenger airbags, ABS with brake-force distribution, and hill-assist control are standard, too.

Upgrading to the Xr brings black roof rails, cruise control, additional controls on the steering wheel, four speakers, four additional airbags, and the ability to paint the body in a two-tone colour scheme.

The 4,365mm-long crossover then boasts a boot with 353 litres of cargo space, as well as a ground clearance of 210mm thanks, in part, to the fitment of 17-inch alloys across the range.

Performance

Like its forebear, all new Urban Cruisers are powered by a 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol motor with an output of 77kW and 138Nm.

The Xs is available with a five-speed manual shifter only, while the Xr can be had in manual or four-speed automatic, with fuel consumption sitting at 6.1l/100km regardless of the gearbox chosen.

Price

The South African pricing and model line-up for the new Toyota Urban Cruiser are as follows.

  • Toyota Urban Cruiser 1.5 Xs – R329,400
  • Toyota Urban Cruiser 1.5 Xr – R347,400
  • Toyota Urban Cruiser 1.5 Xr Auto – R369,900

Each purchase includes a 3-year/100,000km warranty and a 4-services/60,000km service plan.

Toyota has not yet announced whether the new Urban Cruiser is already on sale, but the listing of the vehicle indicates that if it’s not already in dealer showrooms, it should hit them soon.
