R740,000 Mazda CX-60 – South African specifications and launch date revealed

The new Mazda CX-60 is launching in South Africa in June with two models to hit the shelves.

Available in Dynamic and Individual guises the new SUV retails from R739,800 and is positioned as the new flagship model in the manufacturer’s local stable.

CX-60 specifications

Both variants of the new CX-60 are powered by a 2.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol motor putting out 141kW and 261Nm, connected to an eight-speed automatic shifter.

The Dynamic will be offered in front-wheel drive only whereas the Individual is underpinned by a full-time all-wheel-drive system, resulting in a claimed fuel consumption of 7.3l/100km for the former and 7.7l/100km for the latter.

Both configurations provide Normal and Sport drive settings, whereas the AWD model also gets Off-road and Trailer modes.

Moving inside, the new Mazda sports a dual-display setup consisting of a 12.3-inch media screen bringing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, alongside a fully-digital instrument cluster.

Across all variants, the SUV is equipped with eight speakers, a wireless charger, electrically-adjustable front seats, an electric steering column, a heads-up display, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, electric tailgate operation, front and rear parking sensors, and radar cruise control.

Upgrading to the pricier Individual trim brings leather upholstery, a 12-speaker Bose stereo, as well as a facial-recognition system that recognises the driver and adjusts the seat, steering column, climate control, heads-up display, mirror, and radio settings to where they were the last time the person drove it.

The range-topper also receives blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, front and rear cross-traffic alert, traffic-sign recognition, traffic jam assist, a driver drowsiness monitor, smart brake support, and a 360-degree camera system with “see-through view.”

At the back, the SUV is capable of swallowing up to 570 litres of cargo which can be expanded to 1,270 litres if the rear bench is folded flat.
