New flagship GWM P-Series coming to South Africa – Pricing

A new flagship model of the GWM P-Series Double Cab range will soon launch in South Africa at a starting price of R694,950, confirmed Conrad Groenewald, Chief Operations Officer of Haval Motors South Africa.

The limited-edition double cab, aptly badged the LTD, is R54,000 pricier than the current range-topping model.

The P-Series LTD  will be on display to visitors this upcoming week at Nampo Harvest Day from 16-19 May in Bothaville, Free State, alongside its siblings the new Ora Cat – the cheapest electric car in the country – and the rugged Tank 300 4×4.

What to expect

GWM has revealed little about the upcoming P-Series flagship, only confirming that similar to its siblings it will be equipped with a 2.0-litre, turbo-diesel powerplant generating 120kW and 400Nm, driving all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

In the current headlining model, this powertrain reports an average fuel consumption of 9.4l/100km and is capable of towing up to 1,200kg.

Groenewald additionally said the bakkie boasts a “full house of safety and comfort specifications, along with the offroad capability that the P-Series will come to be known for.”

“The P-Series pickups [has] been showing up in the tough bakkie market and the launch of the off-road P-Series LTD is expected to positively impact this market segment,” he said.

The comfort fitments will likely be identical, or better, than the existing range-topper, so we expect the LTD to come with smart keyless entry, a 9-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six speakers, electric and heated front seats, a wireless charger, automatic LED lights, climate control, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Safety and assistance features then encompass a 360-degree camera system, parking sensors, lane-keep assist, lane centre keeping, autonomous emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic-sign recognition, and adaptive cruise control.

The official South African pricing and specifications for the upcoming P-Series LTD are expected to be announced either at Nampo, or when the bakkie goes on sale later this year.
