The Omoda C5 has only been on sale in South Africa for a single month, yet the luxury brand has already updated the range with two new models.
The units in question are the Lux and Lux S, which slot in as the middle child of the line-up between the entry-level Tech and the range-topping Elegance and Elegance S.
The Lux has a starting price of R477,900, making it exactly R30,000 more expensive than the Tech, and R30,000 cheaper than the Elegance.
Features
For those who are not aware, Omoda is the premium sub-division of Chinese automaker Chery, which means the C5 boasts a rather generous spec sheet.
As the mid-range offering in the crossover series, the Lux comes standard with all of the items found on the Tech, which includes LED headlights and daytime running lights, keyless entry and start, a leather multifunction steering wheel, Sports seats, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, cruise control, a wireless charger, ambient lighting, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice commands, and a minimum of six speakers.
On top of this, the Lux adds electric front seats, full-leather upholstery, 18-inch alloys compared to the Tech’s 17-inch wheels, automatic headlights, heated door mirrors, a powered sunroof, an electronic tailgate, an eight-speaker Sony sound system, a 360-degree camera, additional ambient lighting zones, and a two-tone body scheme.
The only difference between the Lux and Lux S is a styling package that adds red highlights to the exterior panels of the latter model, such as on the doors and wing mirrors.
Engine
The powertrain offering for the new C5 derivatives remains unchanged, as all five units use the same 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol arrangement.
This gives the Omoda a power ceiling of 115kW and 230Nm, enabling it to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 9.9 seconds.
The crossover is front-wheel drive and features a CVT transmission, too, resulting in a fuel consumption return of 6.9l/100km.
