GWM has launched a new flagship model for its popular P-series bakkie.
The new model is dubbed the LTD and slots in at the top of the range with a starting price of R694,950.
Each purchase comes with a 5-year/100,000km warranty and service plan, and 5-year/unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance.
Features
Sitting above the previous range-topping LT, the new P-Series LTD comes with a number of additional features that set it apart from the rest of the family.
For starters, it sports a set of 18-inch black alloy wheels paired with all-terrain tyres, as well as larger wheel arches, a black sports bar, a plastic bed liner, and off-road steel front and rear bumpers.
Also included are black roof rails, a specially-developed snorkel, a 12V accessory socket in the engine bay, and a front-mounted winch that can pull up to 4.2 tonnes.
All of the above comes in addition to the equipment found on the LT, such as LED headlights, hill-descent control, tyre-pressure monitoring, a leather multifunction steering wheel, keyless start, a wireless phone charger, voice commands, electronically-adjustable heated front seats, leather upholstery, a 7-inch LCD driver display, a 9-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six speakers, and dual-zone climate control.
The GWM also features a number of driving aids, including a 360-degree camera system, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Performance
The LTD is fitted with the same 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine as its siblings, giving it a power ceiling of 120kW and 400Nm.
Gear changes are handled by an eight-speed “ZF” automatic transmission, and fuel consumption is rated at 9.4l/100km.
The double cab further has a towing capacity of 1,200kg, a ground clearance of 232mm, and a wheelbase measuring 3,230mm.
What really differentiates the limited-edition P-Series, though, is its brand-new four-wheel drive system.
While the other P-Series use a torque-on-demand configuration, the LTD features a fully-selectable 4WD setup with 2H, 4H, and 4L ratios, as well as driving modes for Mud, Snow, and Sand.
Furthermore, it has off-road cruise control and a Cross-Country Expert Mode with a memory function, which links to both the front and rear differential locks.
Other bundu-bashing additions include a thermal management system, traction control, and Trail Turn Assist, which can reduce the turning circle by three metres.
