Mitsubishi has revealed a special-edition version of its popular seven-seater SUV dubbed the Pajero Sport Shogun, and visitors to this week’s Nampo Harvest Day in Bothaville, Free State will have a say in the vehicle’s final specifications.
The Shogun features a number of hand-picked 4×4 accessories that improve the Pajero’s already-impressive off-road abilities, as well as visual enhancements for a standout look.
The SUV is the third of four new vehicles Mitsubishi has on display this week at Nampo, the first being the all-new Outlander and the second the Triton Halo AT35 Prototype.
What’s new on Shogun
The Shogun boasts a black Pajero Sport bonnet decal, a black nudge bar, rock sliders on the sides, a snorkel, door handle protection covers, a wind deflector kit, and under-carriage steel plates that protect sensitive components when you’re tackling the most extreme 4×4 tracks.
Moreover, it gained black 18-inch rims shod with Dunlop all-terrain tyres, an under-bonnet tow bar that doesn’t impede its approach angle, as well as a roof rack that holds accessories like a high-lift jack and spade and acts as a platform for camping equipment such as a rooftop tent.
Moving into the cabin, key equipment in the Shogun comprises black leather upholstery, an electric driver’s seat with lumbar support, and an 8-inch Smartphone-link infotainment system.
Under the skin, the special-edition Mitsubishi sees fitment of RAW suspension components resulting in “improved ground clearance, improved off-road ability, and greater passenger comfort when traversing rough terrain,” said Jeffrey Allison, general manager of marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa.
Usually, the Pajero Sport offers an approach angle of 30 degrees, departure angle of 24.2 degrees, and breakover angle of 23.1 degrees, “all of which are significantly improved by the choice modifications made to the Shogun derivative,” said Allison.
As with all Pajero Sport derivatives, the Shogun is powered by a 2.4-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine that offers 133kW and 430Nm.
Power is transmitted to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox which links with the Super Select four-wheel-drive system to bring 2H, 4H, 4HLc (4WD High range with centre diff locked), and 4LLc (4WD Low range with centre diff locked) settings.
Availability
Mitsubishi has not yet confirmed when the new Pajero Sport Shogun will go on sale as the finer details of the SUV are still being decided.
“Mitsubishi aims to be customer centric and Nampo Harvest Day is a great opportunity to engage with customers and fans regarding what they look for when shopping for or kitting out an off-road vehicle, allowing us to engineer special edition models such as the Shogun to fit those exact needs,” said Allison.
“Final specification of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Shogun will [therefore] be determined by feedback from select Nampo Harvest Day visitors.”
Allison confirmed that when the Shogun eventually does arrive in showrooms, the factory installation of the aftermarket components means the standard 3-year/100,000km manufacturer warranty and 5-year/90,000km service plan remain part of the package.
