Mercedes-Benz has introduced the high-performance GLB 35 to the South African market which will only be available in a limited run of 35 units, all of which are exclusively sold via the automaker’s online store.
As of the time of writing, all units of the GLB are still available priced from R1,425,722.80 with a reservation fee of R10,000 payable.
GLB 35 specifications
The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 is the halo model of the GLB family, sporting a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol motor with an output of 225kW and 400Nm, married with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.
Following the facelift of the GLB range in March, the Mercedes now also boasts mild-hybrid tech that enables abilities such as coasting with the engine off, energy recovery during braking, lower noise and vibration levels, and acceleration assistance through electric boost.
Subsequently, the crossover manages to demolish the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.5 seconds and it only taps out at 250km/h. Combined fuel consumption, meanwhile, is rated at 8.9-9.4l/100km.
Also part of the AMG treatment is the Ride Control suspension system with Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus settings.
Buyers of the limited-edition flagship GLB have a lot to look forward to past the crossover’s performance attributes.
All of the available examples seem to be pre-configured, and are packed with equipment like electric Sports seats wrapped in Artico man-made leather/micro fabric, AMG floor mats, an AMG multifunction steering wheel, carbon fibre interior finishes, a heads-up display, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, ambient lighting, keyless entry and start, and the MBUX infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and built-in navigation.
Active parking assist with 360-degree cameras, automatic multi-beam LED lights with high-beam assist, blind-spot assist, and active lane-keep assist are also included.
A model-exclusive body kit then completes the package and brings sporty AMG bumpers, 21-inch AMG multispoke wheels in matte black, high-gloss black grille louvres with chrome inserts, and an AMG roof spoiler.
