The new Citroen C3 is now on sale in South Africa at a relatively affordable starting price of R229,900, making it R76,000 cheaper than the previous entry-level C3.
Initially, only the Feel specification of the hatchback will be sold with the range to be “expanded with a high-grade model, an automatic option, as well as a compact SUV in the near future,” said Leslie Ramsomaar, CEO and managing director of Stellantis South Africa.
The new Citroen boasts a more rugged, crossover-inspired design than its forebear, characterised by “Y-form” LED headlights, a new grille and bumper, a front skid plate, a slant windscreen and vertical C-pillar, roof rails, new rear quarter windows, and a recessed area with vertical sides flowing down into the rear bumper.
Following the updates into the cabin, the C3 “prioritises roominess and exceptional versatility” through means of “fully-adjustable” seating, “excellent” elbow and knee room for all passengers, “class-leading” rear-seat headroom, a one-litre glove box and centre console, two-litre front door pockets, and 315 litres of boot space.
For the local market specifically, the horizontal dashboard also features a new anodized finish incorporating a chevron textured pattern with two dual-tone colour options on offer to match the two-tone roof, said Citroen.
What you get
The new C3 comes with a 10-inch central infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a 7-inch digital driver’s cluster with six modes for displaying different vehicle data such as the trip computer, fuel consumption, or tyre-pressure monitoring system.
Furthermore, the hatchback has a multifunction steering wheel, keyless entry, central locking, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, manual aircon, drive-away door locks, reverse parking sensors, dual airbags, ABS with electronic brake-force distribution, and 14-inch steel wheels with plastic covers.
Under the hood, the Citroen sees a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine married with a five-speed manual transmission. The configuration provides 61kW and 115Nm and returns a combined consumption reading of 5.6l/100km.
Each new C3 is sold with a 5-year/100,000km warranty and a 2-year/30,000km service plan.
