Honda launches new hatchback-priced adventure bike in South Africa

Honda has launched the new XL750 Transalp in South Africa at a recommended retail price of R209,999.
This makes the rugged adventure bike more expensive than three very popular hatchbacks:
The new Transalp is Honda’s mid-range multi-purpose tourer suited for a wide range of customers with varying skill sets and adventure aspirations.
Transalp specs
The XL750 Transalp is powered by a 755cc, twin-cylinder engine and six-speed manual gear changer the delivers 67.5kW and 75Nm, an output offering “usable, enjoyable performance for rides of all types and all distances, and for riders of all experience levels,” said Honda.
A fuel consumption rating of 23km/l (4.3l/100km) ensures a potential 390km of range from the 16.9l fuel tank.
The powertrain then provides five riding modes with four pre-set configurations namely Standard, Sport, Rain, and Gravel, alongside one user-customisable profile. Between these settings, there are five levels of selectable torque control, four levels of engine power, three levels of engine braking, and two levels of ABS.
The Honda Selectable Torque Control system also provides an integrated Wheelie Control programme, and the Showa dampers have 190mm of travel at the rear and 200mm at the front.
Sitting on a lightweight steel diamond frame and 18/21-inch wheels, the XL750 weighs just 208kg and occupies dimensions of 2,325mm long, 1,450mm high, and 838mm tall, with a ground clearance of 210mm and a seat height of 850mm.
It further comes with a 5-inch, full-colour screen with four speed/rpm displays, fuel consumption readings, ride mode selection, engine parameters, gear info, as well as customisable shift-up points on the rev-counter.
All lighting on the motorcycle are LEDs, too, and a USB Type-C plug is situated under the seat for powering accessories.
A range of optional extras continue to be sold such as a 12V socket and quick-shifter, in addition to Adventure, Comfort, Rally, Touring, and Urban accessory packs each with its own unique add-ons that suit a specific purpose.
Finally, a palette of three colours is available namely matte Ballistic Black metallic, matte Iridium Gray metallic, and Ross White tricolour.
