Land Rover South Africa has updated the Discovery Sport, reworking the interior design and adding several new standard items.
The SUV has a revised starting price of R1,305,400, and customers can order their ideal vehicle using the company’s model configurator.
What’s new
The highlight of the Discovery Sport’s interior overhaul is a new 11.4-inch, curved-glass infotainment screen which is running the latest Pivi Pro software with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in addition to easy-to-reach shortcuts for key functions like climate control, volume, and navigation.
The cabin has been reworked to feel “bright, spacious, and airy” thanks to the addition of stadium-style seating that provides optimal visibility for all three seat rows, said the automaker.
There is a new three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, too, as well as a new gear shifter with dark anodized aluminium trims, and every model in the range now benefits from a digital instrument cluster, paddle shifters, and a 3D surround-view camera.
The Dynamic SE models now feature DuoLeather upholstery with up to three colour options, though clients who do not wish to sit on leather can instead select a Suedecloth option with a soft, non-leather Luxtec material made from recycled polyester microfibres.
The Dynamic HSE variant can be had with an Ebony Windsor leather interior with a Lunar Grey contrast on the seats. Alternatively, there is a DuoTone option with a Light Oyster and Ebony finish.
The seven-seat interior layout can also be re-arranged in up to 24 different configurations, as the second row can slide and recline with a 40:20:20 split.
Furthermore, the Discovery can provide a storage capacity of up to 1,794 litres when the rear bench is folded down.
At the front of the cabin, the centre console has been redesigned to provide more storage and features a wireless charging pad in addition to the USB type-C ports and 12V socket provided for each seat row.
Another improvement concerns the climate control which now has up to three zones of coverage, depending on whether the five or seven-seater models are chosen, and features an updated Cabin Air Purification system which filters CO2 levels, reduces odours, and lowers the intake of allergens, pathogens, and bacteria.
Attention has also been given to the exterior, as the Dynamic units now have a contrasting roof with exterior colour accents including a gloss black finish on the grille, body sills, and lowered bumpers.
Optional wheels have been made available consisting of 21-inch alloys with a gloss-black appearance, or 19-inch rims with a gloss-black or diamond-turned finish. A new Varesine Blue scheme has been added to the exterior paint options, too.
The powertrain line-up then remains largely unchanged, except for the plug-in-hybrid P300e which now offers an electric driving range of 47km while only needing 30 minutes to charge from 0-80% thanks to improved battery chemistry in its 14.9kWh module.
