New Toyota Rumion in South Africa – Pricing and features

Toyota has given its Rumion MPV range a makeover which was accompanied by a small bump in price.

The seven-seater is now available in three trim levels and with two transmissions resulting in a total of five specifications, and it sells from a starting price of R296,900, as provided by Duoporta vehicle information specialists.

What’s new

Outside, the new Rumion has seen a minor touchup with the addition of a new mesh-pattern grille with chrome surrounds replacing the triple crossbars that ran through the previous model’s nose.

The facelifted version additionally gets silver mirrors, redesigned alloy wheels, and a new front bumper that also features chrome highlights – depending on the model.

Standard kit across the new Rumion line-up comprises 15-inch steel wheels, manual aircon, a multi-information driver’s display, rear parking sensors, two front airbags, and ABS with brake assist.

The pricier SX trim has further received a multifunction steering wheel, front-seat armrests, rear-seat aircon vents, a rear window wiper and demister, electric wing mirrors, remote locking/unlocking, a reverse camera, cruise control, hill-assist control, a 7-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and four speakers.

Upgrading to the top-end TX then brings 15-inch alloy rims, LED fog lamps, smart keyless entry and push-button start, automatic airconditioning, faux-wood interior finishes, six speakers, and 12V power sockets at the front and rear.

In seven-seater mode, the Rumion’s boot swallows up to 153 litres of cargo, in five-seater mode it grows to 550 litres, and with only the two front seats up there’s 803 litres of space.

Each Rumion is driven by a 1.5-litre, petrol motor generating 77kW and 138Nm.

The base model can only be had with a five-speed manual transmission, while the mid and top-spec variants are also available with four-speed autos, with the range returning an average fuel consumption of 6.2l/100km.

The powertrain also supports a 1,000kg towing capacity and allows the MPV to reach speeds of 175km/h.

Price

The South African pricing and model line-up for the new Toyota Rumion are as follows:

Each purchase is accompanied by a 3-year/100,000km warranty and a 4-services/60,000km service plan.

The S and SX models are now available, whereas the TX will hit showrooms in August, said Toyota.
