Opel has revealed its new flagship model in South Africa in the form of the Grandland.
Available in three specifications, the new Grandland is now on sale with prices starting at R599,900.
The newcomer retains the same powerplant as the Grandland X, while featuring additional technologies and assistance systems that, until now, could only be found in higher-end models, said the company.
Features
On the visual front, the new SUV is sporting the same Vizor design first introduced on the Mokka, with the iconic new Blitz logo proudly displayed on both the front and rear of the car.
The body is complemented by gloss black accents on the bumpers and side panels, and is optionally available with a two-tone roof.
The highlight of the exterior, however, is the new set of IntelliLux Pixel adaptive headlights found on the GS Line and Ultimate trim levels, comprised of 168 LED elements that are able to respond to oncoming traffic to prevent glare.
These headlights also work in tandem with the new Highway Integration Assist, which uses a camera and radar sensors to control the adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist.
Inside, the dashboard is dominated by a dual-screen setup consisting of a 7-inch digital driver screen and a 7-inch infotainment system, the latter of which comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The base model also features cloth upholstery, keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, traffic sign recognition, and a speed limiter.
The GS Line and Ultimate will then upgrade the seats to an Alcantara or leather suite, respectively, with electronically-adjustable front seats with pneumatically-controlled lumbar support.
Additionally, the higher specifications will throw in a hands-free electric tailgate, Navi Pro onboard navigation, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functions, heated and ventilated front seats, lateral parking sensors, a reverse camera, a wireless charger, blind-spot monitoring, driver attention alert, and an automatic parking assist.
Powertrain
The Grandland is equipped with the same turbocharged, 1.6-litre petrol engine as the X, giving it a power rating of 121kW and 240Nm.
All models are front-wheel drive and use a six-speed automatic gearbox, resulting in an average fuel consumption return of 7.0l/100km.
