The new Hyundai Grand i10 has gone on sale in South Africa and for the first time it is available in both hatchback and sedan guises.
The hatch is offered in six specifications including one Cargo Panel Van model from a starting price of R229,900, while the roomier sedan can be yours in two individual trims from a starting price of R279,900.
Features
The new Grand i10 hatchback is available in entry-level Motion and pricier Fluid grades, with the sedan coming in Fluid spec only.
Standard equipment across the range takes the form of a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a multifunction steering wheel, patterned cloth seats, manual airconditioning with rear-seat vents, rear parking sensors with a reverse camera, ABS with electronic brake-force distribution, and two airbags.
Upgrading to the Fluid sees the addition of cruise control, a height-adjustable driver seat, electric folding mirrors, and LED daytime running lights, as well as 15-inch alloys that replace the 14-inch steel wheels with plastic covers found on the Motion.
Cargo space in the hatchback then comes in at 360 litres whereas the 180mm-longer sedan brings along a 402-litre boot.
Engines
The Grand i10 hatch can be had with a 1.0-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that makes 49kW and 94Nm, or a 1.2-litre motor with 61kW and 114Nm, whereas the sedan is exclusively sold with the 1.2-litre unit.
Both powerplants in both body styles are available with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox, with fuel consumption for the hatch ranging between 5.5-5.9l/100km, and for the sedan between 5.5-5.7l/100km.
The hatch also boasts a 0-100km/h time of 12.3-14.9 seconds while the sedan claims the landmark in 12.3-14.5 seconds, depending on the chosen model, and a top speed of 167km/h is on the cards for both.
