Renault has updated its Koleos flagship SUV for the South African market, with one model now on offer starting from R608,999.
Before, the Koleos was available in 4×2 Expression as well as 4×2 and 4×4 Dynamique specifications for a total of three, but these have now been removed in favour of a single 4×2 Intens trim.
Visually, the SUV has remained largely unchanged following the update, though it has been on the receiving end of a multitude of new features and equipment.
What you get
The new Koleos provides a generous level of kit with standard amenities ranging from leather seats, dual-zone climate control, and keyless entry and start; to an electric driver seat, automatic LED headlights with daytime running lights, and a hands-free tailgate to access the 464-litre boot.
The niceties continue with bi-tone 18-inch wheels, rain-sensing wipers, a leather multifunction steering wheel, heated front seats, cooled/heated cupholders, ambient lighting, and an 8.7-inch infotainment touchscreen with voice control, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto playing through an eight-speaker Arkamys stereo.
Furthermore, the Renault spoils its driver with a host of assistance systems including cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, self-park assist control, hill-start assist, a reverse camera, and front and rear parking sensors.
It also boasts a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating partly thanks to the fitment of ABS with emergency brake assist and six airbags.
Under the hood, the Koleos gets a 2.5-litre, petrol motor that mates to the manufacturer’s X-Tronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) that turns the front wheels only.
The setup generates up to 126kW and 233Nm, enough to get the SUV to 100km/h in 9.5 seconds and up to a top speed of 185km/h. It also returns a combined fuel consumption of 8.1l/100km, lending the Renault a driving range of 741km on a tank.
Included in the price of a new Koleos is a 5-year/150,000km mechanical warranty and a 5-year/90,000km service plan.
