Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series smashes Nurburgring record – Photos and video

The new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is the new record holder for the fastest time around the Nurburgring for “fully standard, unmodified models”.
The car has also earned a place near the top for “street-legal sports cars” on the track.
GT3 racer Maro Engel took the GT Black Series around the Nordschleife route on the circuit in a time of 6:43 – measured without the straight at track section T13 – and 6:48 for the full track.
“Engel made full use of all the possibilities offered by the new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series as standard: such as the most powerful AMG V8 series engine ever with 537kW, the sophisticated aerodynamics, and extensive suspension adjustment options,” said Mercedes-Benz.
This included the soft compound Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R MO tyres – which come standard with the car – the ceramic high-performance brake system, and Track Package with rollover protection and four-point safety belts.
“With speeds of up to almost 270km/h in the Kesselchen section of the track or well over 300km/h on the long Dottinger Hohe straight, the AMG GT Black Series is significantly faster than my GT3 race car,” said Engel.
Mercedes-Benz went on to state that the record was made even more impressive by the fact that conditions were “not ideal”
The lap was run a 17:02 local time, which meant low-light conditions were present along with a track temperature of 10 degrees celsius.
“In addition, some passages of the extremely demanding track were not yet totally dry,” said the company.
