Mazda has updated its Mazda 3 range in South Africa, cutting the number of available models in half while the remaining units have had a small price bump.
The trim levels you can no longer buy include the entry-level Active as well as the mid-range Individual, both in manual and automatic guise, which had price tags of R429,300, R502,600, and R517,700, respectively.
The loss of the Active means the starting price of the Mazda 3 has gone up by R18,200 to R447,500 for the manual Dynamic spec.
What’s available
The Mazda 3 Dynamic is equipped with a 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 88kW and 153Nm. It is available with either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox, both of which provide a fuel consumption return of 6.0l/100km.
The flagship Astina, on the other hand, features a 2.0-litre, petrol plant generating 121kW and 213Nm, which is exclusively paired to a six-speed auto transmission with a slightly higher consumption of 6.3l/100km.
With the base model falling away, standard equipment on the hatchback now includes automatic LED headlights, daytime running lights, auto-folding side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, rear privacy glass, 16-inch alloy wheels, keyless start, an electronic handbrake, manual air conditioning, cruise control, a wireless charger, a leather multifunction steering wheel, eight speakers, hill assist, and rear parking sensors.
There are also three displays including a 7.0-inch driver screen, an 8.8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a heads-up display.
The range-topping Astina will then add keyless entry, a powered sunroof, dual-zone climate control, paddle shifters, a 10-way electronically-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, black and red leather upholstery, onboard navigation, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a reverse camera.

- Mazda 3 hatch 2.0 Astina – R565,700
