New Suzuki Fronx launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

The new Suzuki Fronx has touched down in South Africa and it’s available in four specifications from a starting price of R279,900.

Based on the Baleno hatchback and measuring only 5mm longer, 20mm wider, and 50mm taller, the coupe-shaped crossover is Suzuki’s new entry-level SUV following in the footsteps of the recently-discontinued Vitara Brezza.

The Fronx is the first of three new Suzuki models on their way to our roads, the second being the XL6 and the third the five-door Jimny.

Features

The new Fronx is sold in entry-level GL and pricier GLX specifications, which are differentiated both in terms of looks and kit.

The GL sits on black 16-inch wheels and boasts black roof rails, whereas the GLX is endowed with polished alloys of the same dimensions and silver roof rails.

Standard amenities across the Fronx range then include automatic LED headlights, climate control, a multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, a reverse camera, and a 7-inch media screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Safety systems are also well-rounded and take the form of hill-hold control, ABS, and dual front airbags, while the boot is able to accommodate up to 304 litres of cargo.

Upgrading to the GLX adds keyless entry and start, a heads-up display, a 4.2-inch multi-information driver’s display, a 360-degree camera system, and a wireless charger; as well as four additional airbags for a total of six.

Buyers can also get their Fronx in a total of six colours, with three being available with a contrasting black roof.

Engine

The Fronx line-up is driven by a single engine option connected to the buyer’s choice between a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.

The power unit generates 77kW and 138Nm and achieves a combined fuel consumption of between 5.5-5.7l/100km, depending on the gearbox, which is identical to the Baleno’s numbers.
