Updated JAC T8 double cab now on sale in South Africa – All models under R500,000

JAC has introduced the new T8 Super Lux double cab to the South African market with two models on offer both retailing for less than R500,000.

The updated T8 range boasts over R50,000 of additional factory-fitted features over the outgoing model which are all covered by the manufacturer’s included warranty and service plans, while keeping their price tags equal.

“Positioned between the affordable T6 double-cab workhorse line-up and the imminent T9 range-topper, the T8 offers a value-packed choice for double-cab buyers seeking a versatile bakkie that addresses both their lifestyle needs and work demands,” said Karl-Heinz Göbel, CEO of JAC Motors South Africa.

What’s new

The facelifted T8 was the recipient of a new front-end design incorporating a restyled chrome-plated grille, Xenon headlamps with LED daytime-running lights, and fog lamps now integrated into the front bumper.

Continuing the revisions are black wheel arches accompanied by running boards, a style bar,  and redesigned 18-inch alloy wheels; as well as “Double C” LED taillamps and new rear fog lamps.

For the 4×4 derivative, a customised black off-road style bar, rear step bumper, and side steps are also included.

Inside, the JAC double cab now sees standard fitment of a sunroof, multifunction steering wheel, manual air-conditioner, electric windows, genuine leather front seats, an electric driver seat, a multi-information driver’s display, USB and 12V power sockets, and a 9-inch central touchscreen Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

Furthermore, it comes with cruise control, hill-start hold control, a tyre-pressure monitoring system, ABS with brake assist, and two front airbags.

In front, the JAC is equipped with a 2.0-litre, turbo-diesel powerplant producing 104kW and 320Nm, married with a six-speed manual transmission.

The configuration registers a combined fuel consumption of 7.8l/100km and enables the bakkie to tow a maximum of 2,000kg and carry up to 900kg in the rear box – the latter of which measures 1,520mm (L) by 1,520mm (W) by 470mm (H) and is coated with a corrosion-resistant liner.

Once again the pricier 4×4 version brings a few unique abilities to the table thanks to its electronically-controlled, time-sharing, four-wheel-drive foundation paired with a rear-mounted diff lock.

It allows the driver to switch between two-wheel drive (2H) and four-wheel drive (4H) at speeds up to 80 km/h at the touch of a button, and it also features a low-speed four-wheel drive (4L) selection with a torque amplification mode for greater off-road agility.

With 220mm of ground clearance, both T8 models then provide an approach angle of 29.6 degrees, a break-over angle of 23.5 degrees, and a departure angle of 22.4 degrees.
