The popular carmaker Chery made a big announcement this weekend with the reveal of the new Tiggo 7 Pro Max, which will take the flagship position of its line-up.
The new vehicle was showcased at the 2023 Festival of Motoring in Midrand, Gauteng, alongside Chery’s subsidiary Omoda, which had the upcoming C9 on display.
The manufacturer provided a breakdown of a few of the Max’s key selling features and confirmed that it would go on sale before the end of the year, with pricing to be established closer to the launch date.
What we know so far
The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max follows the same philosophy as the recently updated Tiggo 8 Pro Max – offering a new drivetrain with more power than the one we are familiar with.
In this case, the 7’s 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol plant has been swapped out for the 1.6-litre, turbo-petrol unit found on the base Tiggo 8, meaning its power output has been increased from 108kW and 210Nm to 145kW and 290Nm.
This setup will be exclusively paired with a seven-speed automatic gearbox just like the one found on the Tiggo 8, replacing the CVT transmission used by the other two models in the Tiggo 7 range.
Breaking this trend, however, is the fact that the 7 Pro Max will be offered in all-wheel drive, unlike every other model in Chery’s current line-up which are all front-wheel drive.
Beyond its upgraded performance attributes, the Max will also have a subtle facelift to differentiate it from its siblings, gaining a redesigned diamond grille pattern and front bumper.
The LED headlights have had a slight rework to fit with the new face, and the panels that once housed a set of fog lights have been overhauled to instead have black-and-blue styling details.
The enhancements are not just limited to the exterior, however, as the crossover boasts a pair of larger 12.3-inch screens for the media and driver displays instead of the usual 10.25-inch monitors.
The wireless charger has also been amped up, going from 15W to a much more powerful 50W pad, and the front seats have been swapped out with powered sports seats with heating and ventilation functions.
Other standard items include a panoramic sunroof, 19-inch alloy wheels, a powered tailgate, a 360-degree camera, and the brand’s latest Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS) 2.5, though Chery has yet to reveal exactly what is included with this package.
The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max’s pricing will be revealed closer to its launch date near the end of 2023, but given that its specs seem to split the difference between the current 7 and 8 Pro, it is reasonable to assume that its sticker will fall somewhere in the middle.
As a reference, the current range-topping 7 Pro Executive clocks in at R477,900, while the base 8 Pro is sitting at R609,900, so expect the upcoming Max to land somewhere between these two figures
