More affordable Chery Tiggo 4 Pro coming to South Africa – Pricing and features

Chery is introducing a more affordable version of its Tiggo 4 Pro – one of the best-selling crossovers in South Africa.

The new model, called the LiT, has a starting price of R279,900, making it R29,000 cheaper than the current entry-level unit, the Urban, which starts at R308,900.

The more accessible SUV is just one of several announcements to come from the Chinese automaker this week, alongside the reveal of a Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max, the news that Omoda would be introducing the C9 crossover before the end of the year, and that a new brand under the Chery umbrella, known as Jaecoo, would arrive in the country in 2024.

Engine

The LiT will use the same 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine as the Urban with 83kW and 138Nm, bearing in mind that higher specifications feature a turbocharged version of the same powertrain.

Unlike the Urban, however, the LiT is available with both a five-speed manual as well as a CVT transmission.

Regarding fuel consumption, the manual uses an average of 7.0l/100km, while the CVT consumes a slightly more economical 6.8l/100km.

The front-wheel-drive vehicle is also able to reach 100km/h in 11.5 seconds, before capping out at 180km/h.

Features

As the new point-of-entry for the Tiggo series, the LiT naturally features fewer trinkets than its siblings.

To reach its sub-R300,000 price point, Chery has removed previously standard features like voice commands and the synthetic leather seats, which are now covered in “techno” fabric.

It has also reduced the number of airbags, dropping from six to two, and the range of colours now only include white, silver, and grey, losing out on options like red and blue.

The good news, though, is that the compact SUV still has plenty of selling points, including a 10.25-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry and start, electric side mirrors, a multifunction steering wheel, automatic headlights with LED daytime running lights, automatic air conditioning, four speakers, rear parking sensors, hill assist, ABS, a rearview camera, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Pricing

The South African pricing for the updated Chery Tiggo 4 Pro range is as follows:

  • Chery Tiggo 4 Pro 1.5 LiT – R279,900 (New)
  • Chery Tiggo 4 Pro 1.5 Urban – R308,900
  • Chery Tiggo 4 Pro 1.5 LiT auto – R314,900 (New)
  • Chery Tiggo 4 Pro 1.5 Comfort – R345,900
  • Chery Tiggo 4 Pro 1.5T Elite manual – R355,900
  • Chery Tiggo 4 Pro 1.5T Elite auto – R386,900
  • Chery Tiggo 4 Pro 1.5T Elite SE – R408,900

Note that the LiT has had its service plan downgraded to a 3-year/30,000km agreement, rather than the 5-year/60,000km service offered on the other units. The warranty’s distance has also been reduced from 150,000km to 100,000km, though the 5-year duration remains the same.

The 10-year/1-million kilometre engine warranty, on the other hand, remains unaffected.
