Facelifted Mazda 2 goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing and features

The Mazda 2 has been updated for South Africa, simplifying the range while adding new features and styling elements.
This is the second time that the Mazda 2 has received a facelift since its launch in 2014, ensuring that the long-running model still has what it takes to turn heads in 2023.
The hatchback is now available in four specifications and prices start at R307,100, according to our sources at Duoporta vehicle information specialists.
Features
The Mazda 2 range now consists of three trim levels – Active, Dynamic, and Individual – meaning that the old Hazumi flagship title has been discontinued.
On the cosmetic front, the Dynamic features a closed-off front grille reminiscent of those you’d find on electric cars, while the Individual now has a honeycomb pattern with red inserts.
The Active also gets 15-inch steel wheels, while the Dynamic and Individual are kitted with 15 and 16-inch alloy rims, respectively.
All versions get LED headlights, however, and customers now have a choice of 9 exterior colours – Arctic White, Deep Crystal Blue, Machine Grey, Platinum Quartz, Polymetal Grey, Snowflake White Pearl, Soul Crystal Red, Aero Grey, and Airstream Blue.
Standard equipment across the line-up now includes front and rear powered windows, a radio with Bluetooth, four speakers, a USB port, keyless entry and start, manual air conditioning, cloth seats, a multifunction steering wheel, and two airbags.
Upgrading to the Dynamic will increase the number of speakers and airbags to six, and add another USB port, a 7-inch infotainment screen operated via a central dial, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, a leather steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and electric side mirrors.
The range-topping option then completes the package with a reverse camera, a wireless charger, automatic headlights, a heads-up display, auto-folding side mirrors, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, paddle shifters, and a two-tone roof.
Regarding the upholstery, the first two trim levels will have cloth seats with either a white, black, or mint scheme to match the exterior colour chosen, while the Individual receives a leather and cloth upholstery with red accents.
Engine
The updated hatch continues to make use of a 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine giving it a power rating of 85kW and 148Nm.
The Active and Individual are exclusively paired to a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox, respectively, meaning the mid-spec Dynamic is the only one to offer a choice between either transmission.
The manual units achieve a fuel consumption of 5.7l/100km, while the auto uses a slightly higher 6.0l/100km on an average cycle.
The front-wheel-drive Mazda is also capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in roughly 9.6 seconds and reaching a top speed of 186km/h.
