New Mazda CX-60 flagship model coming to South Africa – Dates and details

Mazda has confirmed that the CX-60 Takumi is on its way to the South African market, and that it is expected to make landfall in February 2024.

The Takumi will assume the flagship role of the CX-60 family, boasting a powerful diesel engine and distinctive exterior finishes that set it apart as the range-topper.

The SUV only recently launched in the country with two variants on sale, the Dynamic and Individual, which are both driven by a 2.5-litre petrol motor, thus making the new Takumi the first diesel-powered CX-60 offered to domestic buyers.

Takumi specifications

The pricing and full specifications for the new CX-60 Takumi have yet to be revealed, but Mazda has given us a few early hints as to what the SUV will have.

Most notably, it will be equipped with a mild-hybrid, 3.3-litre, six-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine that generates 187kW and 550Nm – an impressive 46kW and 289Nm more than the petrol variants.

Like the current top-spec CX-60, it is anticipated that the Takumi will feed power to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, though given their drastically varying outputs and fuel type, diesel’s consumption and performance figures are likely to be much different than the petrol’s 7.7l/100km and 0-100km/h time of 9.9 seconds.

Mazda has additionally confirmed that the newcomer will feature an exclusive front bumper design; a bar-type piano black grille; a bright metal finish to the front signature wings, side signatures, and glazing surrounds; and 20-inch, black metallic, diamond-cut machined alloy wheels.

Apart from these specifications, prospective owners can expect the Takumi to have many, if not all of the amenities of the Individual, such as leather seats, dual-zone climate control, adaptive LED lights, keyless entry and start, a wireless charger, radar cruise control, lane-keep assist, and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, infotainment system, and heads-up display.

Considering the Takumi will be the new headlining variant, it will likely be priced higher than the R844,500 that the Individual trim currently sells for.
