South Africa’s biggest drift show back in Cape Town this weekend – Road closures

After a four-year hiatus, DriftCity is making its way back to Cape Town this weekend on Sunday, 24 September.
DriftCity will play host to 30 of South Africa’s leading drifters and gymkhana competitors who will battle it out in a 3,000m² drift arena at the iconic Grand Parade.
While the drifting competition will be the main attraction, the event also features a lifestyle exhibition area for industry-related products, along with go-karts, a food village, a kids’ fun zone, and spectator ride-alongs.
Tickets for DriftCity are available at CompuTicket and priced as follows:
- General access (standing) – R150
- Grandstand Seating – R280
- VIP Access – R400
Gates for the event open at 11h00 and the city advises that attendees find parking at the Golden Acre and Harrington Square, as there will be no parking on the Grand Parade and adjacent streets on the day.
“Since its premiere in 2016, DriftCity has proven to be a popular event with residents of a city with a long-standing motorsport culture. DriftCity was one of the first motorsport events the City chose to get behind in our efforts to provide alternative platforms to illegal street racing and unlawful spinning,” said the Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
“For the City of Cape Town, events such as DriftCity contribute greatly to our campaign to get racing off public roads and into more legal environments, while also providing an opportunity to small and medium-sized businesses with trading prospects.”
