BMW has officially released the South African pricing for the CE 04 around a year after first announcing its impending launch, with the battery-powered scooter retailing from a starting price of R256,000 according to the BMW Motorrad configurator.
The CE 04 is one of the first all-electric two-wheelers in the country and offers a wide variety of customisation options, impressive performance figures, and a distinctive look that stands out from the crowd.
CE 04 specs
Driving the new BMW scooter is an electric motor on the rear axle generating a maximum output of 31kW and 62Nm, which can optionally be derated to 23kW, allowing the CE 04 to accelerate from 0-50km/h in as little as 2.6 seconds (2.7 seconds with optional derating) and reach an electronically-limited top speed of 120km/h.
The drivetrain also provides three riding modes comprising Eco, Rain, and Road, as well as an electronic reverser.
The 8.5kWh battery pack then supplies a maximum driving range of 130km, which is reduced to 6.2kWh and 100km with the optional derating.
With the built-in 2.3kW charger, the power module recharges from 0-100% in four hours and 20 minutes (3h20m with optional derating), and with a 6.9kW fast charger, 0-100% is attained in a quicker one hour and 40 minutes (1h10m with optional derating).
Standard equipment on the CE 04 takes the form of a full-LED headlight, keyless operation, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with BMW Motorrad Connectivity, a ventilated storage compartment with a USB-C plug, a side-loading storage compartment with lighting, automatic stability control, and ABS.
Buyers have a raft of additional nice-to-haves to choose from, such as a heated seat and grips, various seating configurations with backrests, a high windscreen, a tyre-pressure control system, an anti-theft alarm, an intelligent emergency call programme, and a quick charger.
