New entry-level Nissan Magnite Turbo launched in South Africa – Pricing and specifications

Nissan has expanded its popular Magnite line-up with a new Visia Turbo model selling at R277,900, bringing the range to a total of 10 variants.

Previously, the Visia trim was only available with a naturally-aspirated (NA) engine whereas the turbocharged motor was reserved for the mid-range Acenta and top-end Acenta Plus specifications.

Magnite Visia Turbo specs

The Visia is the base specification level in Nissan’s crossover family, with two features setting the NA apart from the turbocharged variant.

Standard equipment comprises 16-inch steel wheels, central locking, climate control, a multifunction steering wheel, a six-speaker Bluetooth sound system, rear parking sensors, a tyre-pressure monitoring system, ABS, and two airbags.

The abilities that the Visia Turbo then gets, which the NA Visia does not, are ISOFIX child-seat anchors and the Vehicle Dynamic Control system which assists the driver in retaining grip in slippery conditions.

The Nissan is also capable of carrying 336 litres of cargo in the boot.

With its new 1.0-litre, turbo-petrol underpinnings, the Magnite Visia Turbo produces 74kW and 160Nm – up from the NA’s 53kW and 96Nm – and drives the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.

The forced induction brings several benefits over the NA foundation, over and above the higher output.

Where the NA Visia offers a fuel usage of 5.9l/100km, a 0-100km/h time of 16 seconds, and a top speed of 150km/h; the Visia Turbo sees a lower economy rating of 5.2l/100km, a quicker acceleration time of 11.7 seconds, and an improved top speed of 173km/h.
