Limited-edition Mitsubishi Triton GLX goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing and features

Mitsubishi has launched another limited-edition model for its current-generation Triton series badged the GLX, which is priced towards the more affordable end of its catalogue.

The GLX is the second limited-edition bakkie to come from the automaker this year following the introduction of the Athlete, and both vehicles will only have a short run on the market before the next-generation Triton goes on sale in South Africa next year.

The new model has a starting price of R529,990, making it the second-cheapest double cab after the entry-level GL.

The decision to make the GLX was motivated by the strong reception of the GL, sporting new accessories aimed at consumers looking for a leisure double cab.

Performance

The GLX makes use of the same 2.4-litre, turbocharged diesel engine as its sibling, which feeds 100kW and 324Nm to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

The foundation achieves an average fuel consumption of 8.0l/100km and allows the Triton to tow up to 1,400kg

It also has a limited-slip differential, ground clearance of 205mm, and a rear bed measuring 1,520mm in length, 1,47mm in width, and 475mm in depth, which gives the double cab a load-carrying capacity of 1,000kg.

Features

The limited-edition GLX’s biggest selling point is the inclusion of an equipment pack priced at R10,000 which adds the following items:

  • Triton tailgate lock
  • Black Keko Sport bar
  • Keko Tonneau cover
  • Black Triton low nudge bar
  • Triton GL double tube tow bar
  • Sony infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Bear in mind these items are in addition to the creature comforts already included on the GL, which comprises 16-inch wheels, daytime running lights, side steps, automatic air conditioning, keyless entry, front and rear electric windows, electric side mirrors, ABS, and electronic brake-force distribution.
