The new GWM Ora electric hatch is launching imminently with its South African pricing and model line-up revealed.
Starting at R686,950 up to R835,950, the Ora is available in four specifications ranging across two powertrains and three trim levels. This is between R29,950 and R79,950 less than what the automaker said it would cost back in May and officially makes it the most affordable electric vehicle (EV) in the country.
Along with its new hatch, GWM will also offer customers its proprietary S-VOLT Home Solar Power Generation System so that you won’t be left without a charge if load-shedding strikes, and the hatch will be able to power up through the GridCars charging network with over 350 charge points around South Africa.
GWM Ora specs
The Ora will launch in a choice of 300 and 400 options in South Africa differentiated by their battery sizes and range, both equipped with a single front-mounted electric motor, according to Duoporta vehicle information specialists.
The specifications of these variants are shown in the below table:
Model | Power | 0-100km/h | Battery size | Range |
---|---|---|---|---|
Ora 300 | 126kW/250Nm | 8.4 seconds | 48kWh | 310km |
Ora 400 | 126kW/250Nm | 8.4-8.5 seconds | 63kWh | 400-420km |
With its smaller power module, the 300 recharges from 10-80% in around 41 minutes on an 80kW DC plug, while the 400 reaches the same state of charge in 50 minutes.
Providing more choice in the new GWM line-up are the trim levels, of which there are three, the Super Luxury, Ultra Luxury, and GT Ultra Luxury.
As the Ora hasn’t officially launched yet, however, we don’t know exactly what each package will offer.
Based on information we’ve uncovered thus far, the family of EVs will come with Ora’s Smart Cockpit infotainment system comprising a digital instrument cluster and media screen on the dash both measuring 10.25 inches, artificial leather upholstery, climate control, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and start, automatic LED lights with high-beam assist, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
They also offer a surround-view camera system, lane-keep assist, ABS with brake assist, and seven airbags.
The GT Ultra Luxury trim then gets a sportier look than its siblings, courtesy of exclusive GT front and rear bumpers, a “sharpened” front end, unique Sports wheels, red brake callipers, red interior stitching and accents, a GT steering wheel, and a panoramic sunroof.
Boot capacity for the five-seater is listed at 228 litres with the rear bench up and a maximum of 858 litres with the rear backrests collapsed.
